Caddies

What is a Caddie?

Picture

Junior Caddies

Otherwise known as JC's, they are scouts entering 7th grade. This level of Caddie spends the week in their own unit learning the essentials of camp and experience behind-the-scene moments. They also stay over on Tuesday night with the rest of the Caddies.

Caddies

Any girls going into 8th grade to graduating high school make up our Caddies. These girls help make up the leadership team in each camper unit. They oversee lunch prep, help escort the unit from one activity to another and more.

Senior Caddies

These are the scouts who lead the camper units. They've been trained to teach young girls to start the campfire for lunch each day and many more skills we use throughout the week. They've also been taught the skills to manage camper conflicts and how to harness all that young energy.

Caddies are the Heart and Soul of Our Camp

The Caddie Program has been around for almost 50 years and the underlying purpose has remained the same: Older girls develop valuable leadership skills and confidence during this hands on experience.  Caddie Training teaches outdoor skills, outdoor cooking, tent care, songs and games and communication skills. Most importantly girls have FUN and develop solid leadership skills.

Behavior Expectations
  • Caddies and campers are to be respectful and considerate.
  • Caddies are in charge and, as such, expected to take on this responsibility in a respectful, yet authoritative manner.
  • Caddies must be willing to work with girls and set boundaries on what campers can and cannot do.
  • On day one, Caddies will set boundaries related to how much they are willing to let the campers touch or hang on them. (We discuss this in depth with the Caddies.)
  • Caddies are not the campers’ peers; they are the leaders-in-training and, as such, expected to act appropriately.
  • The Director is available as needed during camp to support Caddies and address Caddie-related issues as needed. We encourage you to speak up during our daily Caddie meeting.

Caddie Training
If you've attended Caddoodles the prior year you're automatically eligible for JC or Caddies. The pre-requisite for all Caddie Training is Program Aid Training. This is for girls in 6th-12th grade. Girls only need to take this training once. Listed below are the three levels of Caddie Training. Each level teaches different components of outdoor skills:
For JC's
  • Program Aide Plus - Expect new dates 2024
For Caddies
  • Caddie Training (news dates for 2024)
Senior Caddies
  • Senior Caddie Training 9th grade+ (news dates for 2024)
  • Any Caddie who has attended Roseville Day Camp as a JC plus 4 years as a Caddie and has gone through the additional training during her overnight stay will also be considered a Senior Caddie.
See link below to register for these classes through council or sign up for Caddoodles.
Tuesday Caddie Overnight
We assume every Caddie will be staying Tuesday night unless we hear otherwise by the pre-camp Caddie meeting. You should bring the following to camp on Tuesday morning, labeled with your camp name and bus stop:
  • Sleeping bag and pillow/pillow case (it can be stuffed with extra clothes and used as a pillow)
  • Pajamas and a small stuffed animal (optional) for comfort
  • Toiletries (i.e. towel, deodorant, soap, comb, toothbrush, etc.)
  • Flashlight/headlamp with new batteries
  • Change of clothes, sweatshirt
  • Long pants and jacket for the evening
  • Themed clothing options for Wednesday
All items, except the sleeping bag should be packed in a small waterproof tote bag. The sleeping bag should be placed in a garbage bag or waterproof stuff sack to keep it clean and dry. You are responsible for your own gear, so whatever you pack, you must be able to repack and carry it to the campsite area.  Do not bring money, treats of any kind, jewelry, toys, games, cell phones, etc.

Thursday Junior Girl Scout Overnight
If you are working with a 5th & 6th grade unit, you should bring the following to camp on Thursday, labeled with your camp name and bus stop:

  • Pajamas and a small stuffed animal (optional) for comfort
  • Toiletries (i.e. towel, deodorant, soap, comb, toothbrush, etc.)
  • Flashlight/headlamp with new batteries
  • Change of clothes, sweatshirt
  • Long pants and jacket for the evening
All items, except the sleeping bag should be packed in a small waterproof tote bag. The sleeping bag should be placed in a garbage bag or waterproof stuff sack to keep it clean and dry. You are responsible for your own gear, so whatever you pack, you must be able to repack and carry it to the campsite area. Do not bring money, treats of any kind, jewelry, toys, games, cell phones, etc.
